On 08/16/2024, an unidentified man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while Louisville Metro Police Department Fugitive Unit and SWAT personnel attempted to take him into custody in the 3400 block of Kramers Lane in Louisville. Police were seeking the man in connection with the shooting death of Yailin Casales Espinel, 34, earlier that morning. Later reporting confirmed Espinel's identity.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m., LMPD officers responded to the 2200 block of Liverpool Lane in the Bon Air neighborhood and found Espinel suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She died at the scene. Police described the killing as domestic in nature and later alleged that the unidentified man was responsible.

During the homicide investigation, police developed information that the man was at a mobile-home community in the 3400 block of Kramers Lane. At approximately 1:30 p.m., LMPD Fugitive Unit officers and SWAT personnel went to the area specifically to locate and arrest him in connection with Espinel's killing.

Police alleged that when officers located the man, he ran from them. During the ensuing foot pursuit, police said the man produced a firearm and shot himself. He died at the scene.
