OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/29/2021, police shot and killed Joe Earl Robideau, 21, following a police chase that began after a St. Peters police officer was shot during a traffic stop. At approximately 5:40 p.m., a St. Peters officer stopped Robideau near 3031 Mid Rivers Mall Drive. Police reported that Robideau shot the officer in the leg and drove away.

Police issued a Blue Alert. An off-duty Lake St. Louis police officer subsequently located Robideau, and Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies and other law-enforcement personnel attempted to stop him. Robideau continued driving away while police pursued him into southern Lincoln County.

Robideau stopped near 2639 Myers Road in the Foristell area. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, he got out carrying a rifle and immediately fired multiple rounds toward officers. Police alleged that after firing one rifle, Robideau retrieved a second rifle from his vehicle and continued firing. A Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was struck by gunfire.

Two Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies and a Lake St. Louis K-9 officer opened fire, striking Robideau. Officers administered first aid, and Robideau was transported to a hospital, where he died.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol assumed responsibility for investigating the fatal police shooting at the request of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The two Lincoln County deputies were placed on administrative leave following the shooting.
