OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/30/2021, Jason Michael Pinyan, 43, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a police standoff at 105 Highway 96 West in Bonaire. Warner Robins Police Department officers had initially responded at approximately 7:49 a.m. to a domestic dispute on Myers Lake Road.

Police were told that Pinyan had entered a residence and had a domestic dispute with a man and woman before leaving. During the investigation, Warner Robins officers heard Pinyan threatening police during a telephone call and determined that he was staying at the Highway 96 residence. Because the residence was outside the city, Warner Robins police requested assistance from the Houston County Sheriff's Office.

Houston County deputies arrived at approximately 10:35 a.m. Deputies saw Pinyan through a window holding a rifle, backed away and took cover. A negotiator contacted Pinyan by telephone and attempted to persuade him to leave the residence.

During the standoff, police heard a single gunshot both through the telephone and from inside the residence. Deputies entered and found Pinyan dead from a single gunshot wound. His body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.

Pinyan's obituary identifies him more fully as Jason Michael Pinyan and confirms that he died on April 30 at age 43.

OFFICER BACKGROUND:
No law-enforcement officer fired the shot that killed Pinyan. The individual deputies and police personnel involved in the standoff were not publicly identified in the sources located.
