NARRATIVE:
On 04/22/2021, Dawn Rose Adams, 54, of Bandon was driving on U.S. Highway 101 with 78-year-old Jeffrey Adams as her passenger when Cory Marcus Orsenico, 32, crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into their vehicle. Dawn and Jeffrey were both killed at the scene.

Beginning around 7:15 a.m., police received repeated 911 reports of Orsenico driving dangerously north from Port Orford. Witnesses reported speeding, swerving through traffic, passing on curves, sudden U-turns, cutting off vehicles and semi-trucks, running red lights without slowing and traveling more than 60 mph through a Bandon school zone. Several agencies began searching for him.

Near mile marker 247, an Oregon State Police trooper traveling south encountered Orsenico traveling north and turned around to follow him. During the maneuver, the patrol vehicle and Mitsubishi were involved in a minor collision. Orsenico then accelerated away southbound.

Investigators concluded that Orsenico moved across the three-lane highway, crossed the double-yellow centerline and intentionally drove into Dawn's oncoming vehicle. Orsenico was also killed, making this a three-fatality crash.

The Coos County Sheriff's Office reconstructed Orsenico's movements through numerous witness reports and sought additional video and eyewitness evidence. Authorities ultimately characterized his collision with Dawn and Jeffrey as intentional rather than an accidental loss of control.
