On 04/27/2021, 32-year-old Andrew L. Hunnaman of Lima was killed when his motorcycle crashed into another motorcycle during a Shawnee Township Police Department pursuit in Allen County, Ohio.

At approximately 9:09 p.m., a Shawnee Township police officer attempted to stop Hunnaman as he traveled north on State Route 501 on a 2007 Honda CB900 motorcycle. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the attempted stop was for a traffic violation but did not publicly specify the violation. Hunnaman accelerated to a high rate of speed and the officer pursued.

As the pursuit reached State Route 501 and Fort Amanda Road, 41-year-old Vincent W. McKercher of Lima was traveling north on a 2013 Harley-Davidson FLT and beginning a right turn onto Fort Amanda Road. Hunnaman's motorcycle struck McKercher's motorcycle.

Hunnaman's Honda left the right side of the roadway and came to rest north of the intersection. Allen County Coroner Heather Lee pronounced Hunnaman dead at the scene. His body was transported by the Coroner's Office to the Mercy Health-St. Rita's Medical Center morgue.

McKercher sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita's Medical Center. His passenger, 10-year-old Joshua K. Lee of Cridersville, also sustained serious injuries and was transported to the same hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Lima Post investigated the fatal collision. Shawnee Township Police Department, the Allen County Coroner's Office and Shawnee Township Fire and EMS assisted at the scene. The intersection remained closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.
