NARRATIVE:
On 08/18/2021, a 34-year-old La Puente man was killed when his Triumph motorcycle crashed into a Toyota Camry during a California Highway Patrol pursuit that began on Interstate 10 and continued into West Covina.

At approximately 1:00 a.m., CHP officers were conducting a construction-crew protection operation on westbound I-10 near Kellogg Drive when the motorcycle passed them traveling more than 100 mph. Officers attempted to stop the rider and pursued him, catching up near Azusa Avenue.

The motorcyclist left the freeway and continued onto West Covina Parkway and southbound Glendora Avenue. CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez said pursuing officers lost sight of the motorcycle on Glendora Avenue.

At Glendora Avenue and Merced Avenue, the motorcyclist ran a red light and struck the side of a Toyota Camry traveling west on Merced Avenue. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

The Camry was occupied by a 35-year-old West Covina woman and a 40-year-old West Covina man. Both were transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with injuries.

The California Highway Patrol Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team investigated the fatal collision. West Covina police assisted at the scene.
