Police were sent to the 100 block of E Jefferson Davis Avenue in Rayne, LA for a “shots fired” call. They allegedly encountered Richard Sonnier with a rifle. He went inside the house and locked himself in. It is unclear why police escalated the situation but a standoff ensued which ended with both sides firing shots and Richard Sonnier being killed.
