NARRATIVE:
On 02/09/2022, 42-year-old Waldric V. Earvin of Stockton was killed when his vehicle crashed into a tree during a San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office pursuit in Stockton.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., San Joaquin County sheriff's deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Earvin's vehicle. Earvin continued driving and deputies pursued him. Available reporting does not disclose the violation or other reason that prompted deputies to initiate the stop.

The pursuit continued to Pershing Avenue, where Earvin lost control of his vehicle and struck a large tree. Contemporary photographs and video show the heavily damaged vehicle against the tree and numerous law-enforcement vehicles at the scene.

Police and emergency personnel removed Earvin from the vehicle and attempted lifesaving measures. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. Authorities subsequently identified him as 42-year-old Stockton resident Waldric V. Earvin.

Stockton Police Department led the multi-agency critical-incident investigation, assisted by the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office and San Joaquin County District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators returned to Pershing Avenue on 02/17/2022 and closed the roadway between Country Club Boulevard and Mendocino Avenue for approximately two hours while conducting additional investigative work related to the fatal pursuit.
