NARRATIVE: On 02/15/2022, an unidentified person was one of three people killed when a stolen Chevrolet pickup crashed during a Texas Department of Public Safety pursuit on U.S. Highway 57 approximately four miles east of La Pryor in Zavala County.

In the pre-dawn hours, a Texas DPS trooper attempted to stop the Chevrolet pickup, which police suspected was being used for human smuggling. Police said the driver did not stop and a pursuit followed. The pickup was carrying seven people.

During the pursuit, the driver attempted to pass another vehicle using the right shoulder. The driver lost control, crossed the highway and the pickup rolled multiple times. Three occupants were killed at the scene and four others were seriously injured. Available reporting does not establish which of the three people killed was the driver.
