NARRATIVE:
On 02/17/2022, 31-year-old Juan Aquino was critically injured when the gray Infiniti sedan he was driving crashed into a tree during a North Carolina State Highway Patrol pursuit in Orange County. His passenger, 35-year-old Nafees Bilal, was also critically injured. Both men subsequently died from their injuries.

Shortly before 3:00 a.m., a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper observed Aquino's Infiniti traveling westbound on Interstate 40 at approximately 133 mph in a 65-mph zone. The trooper attempted to stop the Infiniti, but Aquino continued driving and a pursuit followed.

Aquino exited Interstate 40 onto NC Highway 86. As he attempted to turn left onto Piney Mountain Road, he lost control of the Infiniti. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
