NARRATIVE:
On 02/25/2022, 25-year-old Billy Wayne Sims of Alexander City was killed when the 2014 Chevrolet 1500 pickup he was driving crashed while he was being pursued by Coosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Coosa County, Alabama.

Coosa County Sheriff Michael Howell said Sims was traveling at a high rate of speed when deputies attempted to stop him. Deputies pursued Sims after he continued driving. Howell declined at the time to release further details because the fatal incident remained under investigation.

At approximately 10:40 p.m., while traveling on U.S. Highway 280 near mile marker 60, approximately eight miles south of Goodwater, Sims's Chevrolet left the roadway, struck a ditch and then crashed into a tree.

Sims was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Highway Patrol Division investigated the fatal crash. ALEA identified Sims the following day and specifically reported that he had been attempting to evade Coosa County sheriff’s deputies when the crash occurred.
