OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

REASON FOR CHASE: Passenger killed during speeding pursuit.
.
NARRATIVE:
On 03/09/2022, an unidentified passenger was killed when a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Dane Angelo Fearron of New York crashed and caught fire on Interstate 24 East near mile marker 120 after Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers initiated a traffic stop in Coffee County, Tennessee. A second passenger was also killed.
.
A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper observed Fearron's vehicle traveling in excess of 90 mph as it passed the truck weigh station on Interstate 24 between exits 114 and 117. Troopers pulled onto the interstate and activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.
.
District Attorney General Craig Northcott said the vehicle crashed near eastbound mile marker 120 before the troopers were able to overtake it. The vehicle left the roadway, crashed and became engulfed in flames.
.
Fearron escaped from the burning vehicle and ran from the crash scene. Troopers pursued him on foot and apprehended him a short distance away. He was transported to Unity Medical Center in Manchester for treatment of minor injuries.
.
After firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire, authorities discovered two people dead inside. One victim was located in the front passenger seat and the second was found in the rear passenger area. Both bodies were badly burned and were sent to the state medical examiner for autopsy and identification.
.
Northcott said investigators initially could not determine whether the passengers died from the collision, the subsequent fire, or had died before the impact.
.
Fearron was booked into the Coffee County Jail after his release from the hospital. He was initially charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and evading arrest.
.
OFFICER BACKGROUND:
The Tennessee Highway Patrol did not publicly identify the trooper who initiated the traffic stop or the other trooper(s) involved.
