NARRATIVE:
On 03/15/2022, 31-year-old Jeffrey Haines of Deposit, New York, was killed while riding as the front-seat passenger in a Ford F-450 during a pursuit by Lanesboro Police Chief James Smith in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.

At approximately 12:47 p.m., Smith was pursuing the pickup on Damascus Road in Harmony Township. Pennsylvania State Police reported that it was traveling at a high rate of speed. The publicly released account does not state why police initially attempted to stop the truck.

The driver lost control of the Ford on Damascus Road. The truck left the north side of the roadway and grazed a large tree before crossing both lanes, striking another tree head-on, spinning into additional trees and a utility pole, and coming to rest against trees and the pole.

Haines was ejected from the front passenger seat as the truck crashed and was pronounced dead at the scene. His obituary independently confirms that he died on March 15, 2022.

A second passenger, 22-year-old Jennifer McEwen of Windsor, New York, survived. Palmer suffered serious injuries and was transported to Wilson Medical Center.
