NARRATIVE:
On 03/16/2022, Cleveland Allen was killed when a Chevrolet Impala crashed into the vehicle in which Allen was traveling at 76th Avenue and Rudsdale Street in Oakland. Jacqueline Elliott was also killed.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., Oakland police officers in two marked patrol vehicles attempted to arrest the man in the 1300 block of 76th Avenue on an outstanding warrant. Police Sgt. Yun Zhou later stated in a probable-cause declaration that he backed into one of the police vehicles and drove away.

Police initially stated that officers did not pursue him. Later court records described Sanchez driving away at approximately 70 to 90 mph while attempting to evade police.

He continued southbound on 76th Avenue and ran the stop sign at Rudsdale Street. His Impala collided with the vehicle carrying Allen, Elliott and a third occupant. Allen and Elliott were pronounced dead at the scene. The rear-seat passenger survived and was hospitalized in stable condition.

The driver left the vehicle and attempted to run from the crash scene but was apprehended by Oakland police. Prosecutors subsequently charged him with special-circumstance double murder for the deaths of Allen and Elliott.
