REASON FOR CHASE: Speeding and alleged street racing. A Georgia State Patrol trooper observed two vehicles traveling at high speed on State Route 348 near Blood Mountain and attempted to stop them. Both vehicles continued away and the trooper pursued them.

NARRATIVE:
On 04/23/2022, 37-year-old Rhyan Coley Davis of Gainesville was killed when the silver Mitsubishi Lancer he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle during a Georgia State Patrol pursuit that began near Blood Mountain and continued into White County.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper patrolling State Route 348 near Blood Mountain observed Davis’s Mitsubishi and a second vehicle traveling at high speed. Police alleged the two vehicles were racing. The trooper attempted to catch the vehicles and initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit traveled through the mountainous north Georgia road network and continued into White County. The available public reporting does not provide a reliable maximum pursuit speed, total distance or duration.

As Davis traveled on State Route 17, he approached a curve at high speed. The Mitsubishi crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Nissan Murano traveling in the opposite direction. The impact forced the Nissan off the roadway and down an embankment.
