NARRATIVE:
On 04/23/2022, an unidentified passenger was killed along with the unidentified driver when the Toyota Corolla in which they were riding crashed during an East Chicago Police Department pursuit.

At approximately 3 a.m., East Chicago police attempted to stop the older-model Toyota Corolla near 138th Street and Euclid Avenue. The driver continued away and officers initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit continued to Columbus Drive and Butternut Street, where the driver lost control of the Corolla. The vehicle struck a cement planter and came to an abrupt stop.

The East Chicago Fire Department extricated both occupants. The passenger died at the scene. The driver was transported to St. Catherine Hospital and subsequently died from the injuries.
