NARRATIVE:
On 05/19/2022, 24-year-old Chase D’Carlo Bruton of Charlotte was killed when the 2009 Chevrolet Impala he was driving crashed during a police pursuit that began in Biscoe, Montgomery County, and ended in the Westmoore area of Moore County.

Before the pursuit, Bruton encountered a Biscoe police officer. Police subsequently alleged that Bruton assaulted the officer while the officer attempted to take him into custody. Bruton then drove away in the Chevrolet Impala and the Biscoe officer pursued him. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office also became involved as the pursuit continued east toward Moore County.

Bruton traveled east on North Carolina Highway 24/27 at high speed as the pursuit crossed from Montgomery County into Moore County. A passenger, 28-year-old Emanuel Lamont Clark Allen of Norwood, was riding in the Impala.

Near McDuffie Road in the Westmoore area, Bruton crossed the center line, lost control of the Impala and left the roadway. The vehicle overturned and struck a tree before coming to rest on its passenger side.

Bruton suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Allen was seriously injured and airlifted to WakeMed Trauma Center for treatment. He survived.
