NARRATIVE:
On 05/21/2022, an unidentified 16- or 17-year-old boy was killed along with another teenage male passenger when their vehicle crashed after a North Ogden Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop. All five occupants were juveniles ages 16 or 17.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., a North Ogden police officer attempted to stop the vehicle for what police described as minor traffic violations. The driver immediately accelerated west on 3100 North at high speed.

North Ogden Police Sgt. Brandon Morreale subsequently said the officer was attempting to catch up to the vehicle. Approximately three blocks from the attempted stop, as the vehicle traveled through the intersection of 450 East and 3100 North, the officer reported seeing sparks. Seconds later, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a large tree.

Both teenage male passengers died at the scene. The teenage driver and two additional passengers survived and were transported to area hospitals. First responders spent approximately 30 minutes extricating the occupants from the heavily damaged vehicle.

Police said they did not know why the driver accelerated away from the attempted traffic stop. Police reported finding alcohol and marijuana inside the vehicle and investigated whether impairment was a factor.
