On 07/27/2022, an unidentified male driver was killed when the Mazda 6 he was driving crashed into a tractor-trailer while fleeing from a High Springs Police Department officer on U.S. Highway 441 in Alachua County, Florida.

At approximately 9:08 a.m., a High Springs police officer observed the Mazda being driven erratically near High Springs Main Street and Northwest 183rd Avenue. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued away.

High Springs police reported that the Mazda continued through downtown High Springs before turning north onto U.S. Highway 441 toward Columbia County. Florida Highway Patrol reported that the Mazda was traveling at a high rate of speed as the police encounter continued.
