NARRATIVE:
On 07/28/2022, a 76-year-old Milwaukee man was critically injured when a stolen Kia Sportage fleeing Milwaukee police crashed into two vehicles near North 35th Street and West Wisconsin Avenue and subsequently died from his injuries.

Milwaukee police located the stolen Kia near Greeley Street and Deer Place and attempted a traffic stop. The driver continued away, beginning a police pursuit.

The pursuit lasted approximately 10 minutes and nine miles and reached speeds of approximately 80 mph. Prosecutors said the driver disregarded stop signs and traffic lights and nearly struck multiple vehicles during the pursuit.

Near North 35th Street and West Wisconsin Avenue, Hernandez struck a Chevrolet Equinox while traveling approximately 65 mph, according to vehicle data cited in the criminal complaint. The 31-year-old woman driving the Equinox suffered minor injuries.

The impact sent the Kia into a Honda Odyssey driven by the 76-year-old man. The Kia then rolled over.
