REASON FOR CHASE: Bystander killed after police attempted to stop another vehicle for reckless driving.

NARRATIVE:
On 10/02/2022, an uninvolved Chevrolet Silverado driver was killed when a Cadillac CTS fleeing Kansas City police struck the pickup while it was stopped at a red light at 11th Street and Grand Boulevard. A passenger in the Cadillac was also killed.

At approximately 3 a.m., an officer saw the Cadillac doing donuts in the street and attempted to stop it. The driver accelerated north on Grand Boulevard. After the Cadillac ran a red light at 13th Street, police alleged they discontinued the pursuit.

The Cadillac continued north and struck the Silverado at 11th Street. KCPD investigators determined that the Cadillac was traveling approximately 103 mph one second before impact. The Silverado subsequently struck a light pole.

The pickup driver was transported to a hospital and died from injuries sustained in the collision. The Cadillac passenger also died.
