NARRATIVE:
On 11/03/2022, 41-year-old Gary Macneil Sims of Ville Platte was killed when the Toyota Camry he was driving crashed during a Ville Platte Police Department pursuit in Evangeline Parish. Louisiana State Police explicitly confirmed that the attempted traffic stop developed into a pursuit that ended in the fatal crash.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., a Ville Platte police officer attempted to stop the 2004 Toyota Camry after its owner reported unauthorized use of the vehicle. Sims continued driving at high speed, and the officer pursued him.

The pursuit continued onto Louisiana Highway 10. Near Pelican Road, Sims lost control while negotiating a curve. The Camry left the roadway, overturned several times and struck a utility pole.

Sims was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner's Office. Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated the fatal crash.
