NARRATIVE:
On 11/18/2022, an unidentified 18-year-old man was killed after crashing his vehicle immediately following an attempted traffic stop by Woods Cross Police Officer Salas in Davis County, Utah. The collision occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on 500 West in Bountiful.

Officer Salas was conducting radar enforcement when he observed the red passenger vehicle traveling northbound on 500 West without its headlights illuminated. Woods Cross Police Department records state that radar measured the vehicle at 92 mph. Salas attempted a traffic stop, but the driver continued away.

Woods Cross police stated that Salas did not pursue the vehicle after the driver continued away. Salas nevertheless remained close enough to witness the subsequent driving and crash. The department reported that the driver continued traveling erratically, lost control and struck a curb. The impact caused the vehicle to lose a rear tire.

The disabled vehicle then crossed into opposing traffic and collided with a southbound vehicle at approximately 620 South 500 West in Bountiful. Both drivers were transported to hospitals. The 18-year-old driver died from his injuries, while the uninvolved driver suffered numerous serious injuries.
