On 07/10/2024, around 7:45 p.m., Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputies attempted to arrest 53-year-old Tony Pollard in the 400 block of Wagon Trail Road in Carencro. Pollard was under investigation for several violent crimes, including a July 4 armed robbery in which two firearms were stolen.

During the arrest attempt, Pollard allegedly "moved in a threatening manner." Deputies opened fire, killing him. Reports do not specify whether Pollard was armed during the incident. The Louisiana State Police is investigating the incident.

On 07/10/2024, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies from the East LA Station pursued Luis Florez in connection with an alleged carjacking. On 07/10/2024, Chula Vista Police Department officer Patrick Alvarez responded to a call about a Volvo that had crashed near the waterfront at the intersection of H Street and Marina Parkway, north of Sandpiper Way. Mobile PD Officer Roy Adams drove across an intersection and ran a red light with allegedly blue lights on but no siren at 11 p.m. and pulled into the path of a motorcycle. The police vehicle caused Sumner Howard to crash his motorcycle, killing him. Fox10 pulled the crash report and found that a brick building to the right blocks the view of any approaching cars from the south, which means Howard likely never saw the police car. It had no sirens and Howard very likely was completely unaware of the police car that ran the red light and suddenly blocked his lane.

The intersection has a known blind spot. Police allege that he was speeding through red lights because he was on an “emergency call” but did not disclose what emergency they were chasing. The lack of sirens late at night was also not explained by MPD.

Mobile PD finally disclosed that the officer was Roy Adams Jr. This was the fourth crash he has caused in 2024 alone. Two of the crashes occurred on the same day separately. Another crash happened when he fell asleep while driving his patrol car. Another crash happened when he was seen running a stop sign. The final crash occurred on 7/9/2024 during which he killed Sumner Howard. Local media report that after all these crashes, he is still on patrol but he is no longer driving.

This is the second motorcyclist killed in Mobile in 2024 by negligent MPD officers. The first case, motorcyclist Robert Sayen who was killed by MPD while riding a motorcycle, is currently before a grand jury. The officer in the Sayen crash was Callegari.

On July 9, 2024, at approximately 8:15 p.m., deputies from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Support Team (FAST) observed a vehicle committing a traffic offense on Harwell Road NW in Atlanta. The vehicle, a stolen SUV from Decatur, was driven by 18-year-old Travon Yarborough. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, Yarborough fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The chase concluded near the intersection of Harwell Road NW and Delmar Lane NW when Yarborough crashed into a utility pole. After the crash, Yarborough exited the vehicle and brandished a firearm at the deputies. In response, a deputy fired at least one shot, striking Yarborough. Despite his injuries, Yarborough fled on foot but was apprehended in the backyard of a nearby residence. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover. A female passenger in the SUV was also taken to the hospital for observation. No deputies were injured during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. Asheville PD were called to a domestic violence event and found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head outside of the home. Gregory Wayne Holden was apparently locked inside of the apartment. Police created a standoff and used drones to enter the apartment. They found Holden dead from suicide.

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 9:06 p.m., deputies from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office conducted a welfare check at a residence in the 57000 block of Pendleton Drive in Elkhart, Indiana. The check was prompted by concerns for 37-year-old Ryan Snyder and his two children, 2-year-old Jaxon Snyder and a 4-year-old girl. Deputies discovered Snyder inside the home, reportedly armed, and threatening to harm his children and law enforcement officers.

At approximately 12:09 a.m. on July 7, the Elkhart County Regional SWAT Team arrived to secure the scene and establish communication with Snyder. Snyder refused to exit the residence, discharged a firearm, and barricaded himself inside. The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team later arrived to assist in managing the standoff.

After prolonged efforts to resolve the situation peacefully, the Emergency Response Team entered the home around 3:30 p.m. on July 7. Snyder was taken into custody without further incident. Tragically, officers discovered Jaxon Snyder deceased in the residence. The 4-year-old girl was found unharmed and was released to a relative after being evaluated on the scene. It is not known how he died.

On July 8, 2024, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to reports of a group of young males displaying firearms in downtown Indianapolis. Upon arrival, officers observed the individuals placing the firearms into a parked vehicle. As officers approached, a foot pursuit ensued.

IMPD's Real Time Crime Center later identified a man entering the driver's seat of the same vehicle with a visible firearm. Two other juveniles, including 17-year-old Terryoun Mays, were passengers. Officers attempted a traffic stop once the vehicle exited the downtown area. Initially, the driver complied by pulling over, but then drove away. Officers pursued the vehicle until they lost visual contact and "called off the chase", pulling over to a complete stop.

Approximately three minutes later, officers discovered the vehicle overturned in the 2600 block of Brill Road. The driver and two passengers, including Mays, sustained critical injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Mays died from his injuries.

IMPD's Certified Accident Investigators responded to the scene. A search of the vehicle revealed two firearms, a drum-style magazine, and several bullets. The investigation is ongoing, with findings to be reviewed by the appropriate authorities.

On 07/06/2024, Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman, called 911 to report a suspicious individual near her home in Springfield, Illinois. Sangamon County deputies, including Sean Grayson, responded to her call. After a search around the property, they entered Massey's home, where an altercation occurred. Body camera footage reveals that Deputy Grayson pointed his gun at Massey during an interaction involving a pot of boiling water in her kitchen. Grayson fired, claiming Massey approached him with the pot. Massey was shot in the face and succumbed to her injuries at St. John’s Hospital.

The motorcycles appeared to be racing. On July 6, 2024, a Sherburne County Sheriff's Deputy initiated a pursuit of a stolen 2017 Ram pickup truck on Highway 10 in Becker, Minnesota. The driver failed to stop, leading to a high-speed chase with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The pursuit continued into the city of Becker, where the fleeing vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 10 and Liberty Lane, colliding with a Toyota Camry driven by 36-year-old Christopher Vyskocil. The crash involved a total of four vehicles. Vyskocil suffered severe head trauma and was airlifted to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale. He succumbed to his injuries on July 15, 2024.
