NARRATIVE:
On 11/24/2022, an unidentified 56-year-old person was killed when a wrong-way Chevrolet Impala fleeing a police encounter crashed head-on into traffic on eastbound Interstate 94 near 12 Mile Road in Roseville.

Roseville police had responded to a family disturbance at an apartment complex on Nardelli Lane involving reports of possible gunfire. A 36-year-old man involved in the disturbance left in a blue Chevrolet Impala.

Although Roseville police subsequently disputed that an active pursuit had occurred, civilian dash-camera footage obtained by Local 4 showed police vehicles following the Impala with their emergency lights activated. A witness said he saw the Impala leave the apartment complex approximately 30 seconds after police arrived and described police as chasing it.

The Impala subsequently entered Interstate 94 traveling against traffic. Near 12 Mile Road, it crashed head-on into vehicles traveling eastbound.

The 56-year-old victim was an uninvolved road user and was not the person police were attempting to apprehend.

The crash involved multiple vehicles and injured several additional people. Initial contemporary reporting identified only one death, but later fatal-crash records establish that two people died: the 36-year-old fleeing driver and this 56-year-old bystander.
