NARRATIVE:
On 12/03/2022, 35-year-old Jason Colon of Methuen was killed when the Toyota Highlander he was driving crashed on Grafton Street after he drove away from a Worcester Police Department felony traffic stop. Passenger Krystal Evelisse Reyes, 33, was also killed.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., police responded to 97 Water Street after two men reported that Colon's Highlander had nearly struck them. One man told police that Colon stopped and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at him following a confrontation. The man followed the Highlander and relayed its location to police.

Officers located the Highlander stopped near Grafton and County streets and conducted a felony stop. Colon initially turned the SUV off as directed. When officers approached and ordered him to exit, he restarted the vehicle and accelerated southeast on Grafton Street.

Police radio traffic later obtained in connection with the incident records an officer announcing at approximately 12:20:15 a.m. that Colon was driving away. At approximately 12:20:35, an officer reported Colon traveling about 60 mph on Grafton Street. At approximately 12:20:42, police radioed that he had crashed.

The Highlander struck a curb, crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Dodge Ram before striking a tree and overturning near Roosevelt Elementary School.

Colon was transported from the crash scene to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other occupants of the Highlander survived with injuries.
