NARRATIVE:
On 12/06/2022, Samuel Gonzalez Arroyo was killed when the vehicle in which he was riding crashed during a Texas Department of Public Safety pursuit in Kinney County.

Texas DPS officers were pursuing the vehicle when officers deployed spike strips. The driver attempted to avoid the tire-deflation device, lost control, and the vehicle rolled several times. At least eight people were ejected.

Gonzalez Arroyo, Luis Figueroa Gonzalez, Miguel Mendiola Gutierrez, Raul Tovar Alvarez, and John Ware died. Another four people suffered critical injuries and were flown to hospitals.

A later report from Mexico provides additional confirmation of Gonzalez Arroyo's identity. His family said he was known as “El Rojo” and had previously worked as a municipal police officer in Zentla, Veracruz. He was traveling with other migrants when the pursuit and rollover occurred near Brackettville. His remains were subsequently repatriated to Mexico.

The Mexican reporting states that Gonzalez Arroyo's family learned of his death on December 9 and waited approximately a month for his body to be returned. His family raised money to assist with repatriation expenses.
