NARRATIVE:
On 12/06/2022, John Ware was killed when the vehicle he was driving crashed during a Texas Department of Public Safety pursuit in Kinney County near Brackettville. Four passengers — Luis Figueroa Gonzalez, Samuel Gonzalez Arroyo, Miguel Mendiola Gutierrez, and Raul Tovar Alvarez — were also killed.

Texas DPS officers pursued Ware's vehicle while it was transporting migrants through the border region. During the pursuit, officers deployed spike strips in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

Ware attempted to avoid the spike strips and lost control. The vehicle rolled several times, ejecting at least eight occupants. Ware and four passengers died, while another four occupants were critically injured and flown to hospitals.
