On February 4, 2025, at approximately 1:17 p.m., Anchorage Police Department officers responded to multiple reports of a man, identified as 33-year-old Francis Rochon, brandishing a firearm near the intersection of Tudor Road and Piper Street in Anchorage, Alaska. Witnesses reported Rochon pointing a black pistol at a school bus in an attempt to stop it and walking in the middle of the street. Upon arrival, officers observed Rochon walking westbound toward Folker Street. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon and raise his hands, Rochon reached into his waistband and grabbed the firearm. Video evidence indicated muzzle smoke was visible as the weapon was raised. In response, an officer fired, striking Rochon, who fell to the ground. Officers administered life-saving measures until medics arrived. The Homicide Unit and Major Crime Investigation Team are conducting an ongoing investigation.

Monterey County Sheriff's deputies shot and killed Jose Manuel Zamudio. The circumstances behind the shooting have not been disclosed. The California Department of Justice is investigating the incident.
