NARRATIVE:
On 12/29/2022, a 61-year-old woman was critically injured when a vehicle being pursued by Memphis police crashed head-on into her Toyota Corolla on East Shelby Drive in Memphis. She died two days later from injuries sustained in the collision.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., Memphis police encountered a silver Nissan with a broken window at a Valero gas station at Millbranch Road and Winchester Road. A woman inside the Nissan later told police that she had initially accepted a ride from Bridges and was being held in the vehicle against her will.

Police alleged that Bridges backed the Nissan into a patrol vehicle when officers approached, struck another parked vehicle, and drove away. Memphis police pursued him as he traveled through Whitehaven, with police reporting that he drove into opposing traffic and through red lights. During the pursuit, Bridges allegedly struck another police vehicle and continued on East Shelby Drive.

The pursuit ended when the Nissan collided head-on with the 61-year-old woman's red Toyota Corolla. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Bridges left the Nissan after the crash and was arrested following a short foot pursuit.

The woman survived long enough to be released from the hospital into her daughter's care two days after the collision, but subsequently died. The medical examiner determined that blunt-force trauma to her torso from the crash exacerbated an existing condition and caused her death.
