On 02/17/2025, shortly before 5:00 PM, the Ross County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported burglary on Pleasant Valley Road near Chillicothe. Deputies encountered a man near State Route 104 and U.S. Route 35. He allegedly had a firearm. Officers opened fire and killed him. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.

On February 17, 2025, at approximately 10:48 p.m., a Pierce County deputy observed a Tesla traveling eastbound on 128th Street East in Puyallup at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The deputy initiated a pursuit without activating lights and sirens but soon lost sight of the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the deputy discovered the Tesla had veered off the road, crashed through a fence, struck three large trees, and caught fire in the backyard of a residence in the 7000 block of 128th Street East. The deputy attempted to rescue the 45-year-old male driver by breaking the driver's side window but was forced to retreat due to the intensifying flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other individuals were injured, and the fire was contained to the vehicle.

On February 17, 2025, at approximately 1:35 PM, Justin M. Barbour, 28, of Crozet, Virginia, opened fire in the parking lot of the Harris Teeter grocery store located at 545 Radford Lane. Barbour first shot 43-year-old Peter L. Martin, who was exiting the store, and then 68-year-old Diane G. Spangler, who was seated in her car. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene, while Spangler was transported to UVA Medical Center in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries. An off-duty federal law enforcement officer, who was exiting the store, engaged Barbour with their personal weapon, fatally shooting him at the scene. The officer was uninjured. Investigators determined that Barbour had no prior affiliation with either victim or the location. He fired 28 rounds within 20 seconds. Barbour had no criminal history but had prior non-violent contacts with law enforcement, including mental health-related interactions in December 2024 and January 2025.

Deputies attempted to pull over a red Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 41-year-old Michael Gaffney for speeding in the southbound lanes. Gaffney accelerated away while approximately three minutes later, multiple 911 calls reported a motorcycle crash near 1427 Bayshore Boulevard. Investigators determined that Gaffney lost control of his motorcycle while fleeing and collided with a guy wire attached to a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 02/13/2025, a Blackshear Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Corey Ray Beale. Beale did not stop. On 02/13/2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., EMS responded to a breathing complaint involving a 65-year-old woman at a residence on Grapevine Road in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Upon arrival, EMS personnel were confronted by a man with a machete and a rifle. The woman indicated she was not experiencing a medical issue but feared harm from the man, who had threatened to shoot law enforcement upon their arrival. She was transported to Berkeley Medical Center. Berkeley County Sheriff's deputies and West Virginia State Police established a perimeter and, shortly after midnight, encountered the man armed with a rifle. On February 10, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., 23-year-old Moises Cruz of Millersburg was driving a Honda Accord at a high rate of speed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and collided with a Harrisburg Police Department SUV and two other vehicles. Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. The police officer and occupants of the other vehicles sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The incident is under investigation.
