NARRATIVE:
On 12/30/2022, a 15-year-old girl was killed when the Ford Taurus in which she was a passenger crashed during a Tuscaloosa Police Department pursuit in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

At approximately 4:00 a.m., a Tuscaloosa police officer attempted to stop the vehicle after police alleged the driver ran a stop sign at 13th Street East and 15th Avenue. The vehicle continued along Kicker Road and then traveled north toward Jack Warner Parkway while the officer pursued it.

The pursuit continued onto 25th Avenue East/Northeast. At approximately 4:03 a.m., just three minutes after the attempted traffic stop began, the vehicle left the roadway near the curve by Tamaha Trace and struck trees.

The 15-year-old passenger was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. Alabama State Troopers later identified the driver as 19-year-old Kevonta O. Hayward-Jackson. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
