OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/30/2024, a juvenile died after falling approximately 70 feet into an open quarry pit in Comal County while fleeing San Marcos and New Braunfels police. San Marcos officers had attempted to stop a Hyundai believed to be stolen in San Marcos. The vehicle contained two juveniles from San Antonio, and the driver fled south on Interstate 35. New Braunfels police joined the pursuit after it entered their jurisdiction.

The Hyundai left Interstate 35 and traveled down a gravel road into a rock quarry, where it crashed into a boulder. Both juveniles ran from the vehicle. New Braunfels police captured the driver, while the passenger continued running toward an open quarry pit and fell approximately 70 feet to his death.

Three stolen firearms and two pieces of stolen body armor were recovered from the Hyundai. The San Marcos Police Department and Texas Rangers investigated the death.
