NARRATIVE:
On 11/23/2023, an unidentified driver was killed when a stolen Jeep crashed into a tree during a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office pursuit in Lewisville.

At approximately 12:50 p.m., a Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy received an automated license-plate-reader alert for a stolen license plate near Country Club Road and Meadowlark Drive. The deputy notified communications and turned around after the Jeep, which was traveling on Shallowford Road toward Lewisville.

At approximately 12:55 p.m., another deputy located the Jeep and activated emergency lights in an attempt to stop it. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver accelerated away at high speed on Lewisville-Vienna Road and the deputy pursued.

At approximately 12:56 p.m., the driver lost control while traveling through a curve in the 600 block of Lewisville-Vienna Road. The Jeep left the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest in the front yard of a residence. Emergency medical personnel responded and found the driver dead at the scene.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said 34 seconds elapsed from the deputy activating emergency lights until the crash. The agency said both the Jeep and its license plate had been reported stolen to the Chesapeake Police Department in Virginia on 11/21/2023. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the fatal crash.
