REASON FOR CHASE:
Erratic driving / attempted traffic stop.

NARRATIVE:
On 04/08/2023 at approximately 4:25 p.m., a Woodland Police Department officer saw a Honda Pilot being driven erratically northbound on College Street from Main Street. The officer attempted to stop the SUV, and the driver continued away, beginning a short police pursuit.

The driver was a 13-year-old boy who had taken the Honda Pilot from a family member.

The pursuit continued through a 25-mph zone before reaching College Street and Court Street, where the Honda crashed into two other vehicles. The collision caused a violent three-vehicle wreck, with two vehicles catching fire.

One of the vehicles contained Tina Vital, 43, and her 4-year-old granddaughter Adalina Lilah Perez. Vital was killed at the scene. Perez was critically injured. Approximately 11 people were injured altogether, including the 13-year-old driver.

Perez died at a hospital four days later, bringing the pursuit death toll to two.
