Savannah McCreary was killed. Her husband, Officer Colby Tyler McCreary of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office had been driving under the influence with a BAC of 0.17 when he caused the single-vehicle crash that killed his wife. He was injured, recovered, and while Deputy McCreary was initially charged with manslaughter but most likely due to his privilege as law enforcement officer, the felony charges were dropped and he agreed to a plea agreement coming on February 28, 2024 on a single count of driving while intoxicated, a class B misdemeanor. The maximum penalty for a first-time DWI in Missouri includes a temporary suspension of driving privileges, a potential fine and up to six months in jail.
The manslaughter charges are dropped and Officer McCreary is still fully certified and free to return to work in law enforcement.

The five occupants of the Jeep Wrangler, ranging in ages from 15 to 17, had been driving around the county shooting at vehicles with an Orbeez gel ball toy gun prior to the chase. An Orbeez gun is a toy gun that shoots small balls made of gel.
Deputies had attempted to initiate a traffic stop, activated their overhead lights and siren and chased the Jeep until it crashed and rolled over multiple times near the intersection of Roberts and E. Ganson streets.
Deputies approached the crashed vehicle with guns drawn and detained three teens. Jordan Jarrell, a 15-year-old boy was severely injured after being ejected during the first crash and died from his injuries. Another 15-year-old was treated at the hospital before being taken by helicopter to Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor in critical condition.Another passenger remains in serious condition at Henry Ford with a broken neck.Officers found an Orbeez gun and fifth of alcohol in a search of the vehicle.
