A Kansas City PD officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a Kia that had eight people, mostly teenagers, in it. The vehicle sped away, and the officer discovered that it was stolen. Police escalated a high-speed pursuit that ended when the Kia collided with a bystander vehicle while being chased by police. The devastating crash caused the following fatalities and injuries:
The Dead:
• A 16-year-old boy, driver, dead at crash scene
• A 37-year-old man in the front passenger seat dead
• Female passenger, age unknown, dead at hospital
The Injured:
• 20-year-old male, condition unknown, in hospital
• A 4-year-old, gender unknown sitting on the lap of the 20-year-old male
• A 6-year-old passenger with serious injuries
• A 12-year-old in the cargo area of the Kia with serious injuries
• A 13-year-old in the cargo area with serious injuries
Note that police were evidently aware that this was a car full of young children and teens before they undertook this lethal manhunt for a stolen car. Jose Barrera, 62, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on August 13, 2024. He had been booked earlier that day for a violation of the annual sex offender registry. Another detained individual, 28-year-old Anthony Chase McGruder, was charged with his murder. According to reports, McGruder admitted to investigators that he "killed a guy" and had previously assaulted other detained individuals.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Orlando Police initiated a high-speed pursuit of a white Lexus. The police chase reached speeds exceeding 60 mph through downtown Orlando, violating department pursuit policies. The fleeing vehicle ran a red light at West Anderson Street and Parramore Avenue, colliding with a Honda Civic driven by 28-year-old Delmy "Patty" Alvarez. The driver of the Lexus was fatally injured in the crash and later pronounced dead at the scene. Delmy Alvarez, a mother of two, also died from injuries sustained in the crash. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident. The driver of the Lexus was not publicly identified by police.

A man was driving toward Vermillion and police were notified that he was suicidal, had a rifle and maybe be in violation of a protection order. Police found and traffic stopped him. When police approached his car, he reportedly shot himself and died.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a weapon at a residence in the 600 block of Watersonway Circle on the city's south side. Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots from within the home.

Inside, officers discovered two teenage girls, each with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University; one was in stable condition, while the other sustained critical injuries.

In the backyard, officers found 41-year-old Ashley Lynn Nolan and her husband, 43-year-old Officer Thomas Joseph Nolan, both deceased from gunshot wounds. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

On August 12, 2024, around 7:00 p.m., Warner Robins Police officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in the 200 block of North 6th Street. Police alleged that Mikhal Anthony Concepcion fired at the officers and into a nearby home, attempting to force entry. Police shot an unknown number of bullets at Concepcion. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On August 12, 2024, San Bernardino deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle being ridden by Albert William Park, who fled the traffic stop. George Edward Mulligan Junior was involved in what was initially reported as a domestic dispute. Police arrived and found a woman in the backyard. They allege that someone fired shots toward them from inside the home. No one was hit. Police moved the woman to safety. A perimeter was established and back up arrived in the form of front Royal Police Department, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, Winchester Police Department, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office, establishing a giant police presence and very tense SWAT situation onto the home where the man, and two children were still inside under massive police pressure. Police fired gas canisters inside of the residence while the children were still inside. Police then brought out the children sometime after the CS gas assault. A drone was sent inside of the house and found the man dead from suicide under police duress.

On August 11, 2024, at approximately 1:45 p.m., 85-year-old Sarah Jackson of Steens, Mississippi, was involved in a fatal collision on Highway 12 near Billy Kidd Road, northeast of Columbus. Lowndes County Sheriff's Deputy Rachel Basher, 28, was responding to a disturbance call with her vehicle's lights and siren activated. Both vehicles were traveling west on Highway 12 when Deputy Basher's vehicle collided with the left side of Jackson's vehicle. Jackson was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where she died from her injuries. Deputy Basher sustained minor injuries and was treated and released. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

On August 11, 2024, at approximately 12:31 p.m., Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on Kuyrkendall Place in Long Beach, Mississippi. Upon arrival, officers encountered 43-year-old Justin Brown, who allegedly fired at them. Officers returned fire, prompting Brown to retreat and barricade himself inside the home. Family members present were able to exit the residence safely.

The standoff lasted nearly four hours, during which law enforcement made multiple attempts to contact Brown. On August 11, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., a 911 caller reported a man waving a "machine gun" near a Verizon store at the intersection of Lexington Road and Gaines School Road in Athens, Georgia. Athens-Clarke County Police officers arrived and identified 26-year-old Marquavious Sims armed at the location. Upon seeing the officers, Sims fled across the street into the QuikTrip gas station parking lot. Officers pursued him on foot, repeatedly commanding him to drop the weapon.

According to police, Sims turned and fired at the officers. Two officers opened fire on him and struck him a number of times. Sims was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the Clarke County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Corpus Christi Police were sent to the ranch dance call for an assault in progress. Police allege that when they arrived, they found a teenager on top of another male while holding a gun. Police shot and killed him.

On August 10, 2024, at approximately 4:11 a.m., Officer Alexander Rodriguez of the Anne Arundel County Police Department initiated an unauthorized high-speed pursuit of 21-year-old Joshua VanderZiel, a Russian linguist for the U.S. Navy, who was operating a motorcycle. The chase spanned approximately four miles, beginning in Anne Arundel County, passing through Prince George's County, and concluding in Howard County. Officer Rodriguez did not activate his patrol car's lights or sirens during the pursuit. The chase ended when VanderZiel collided with a flatbed truck making a turn on Washington Boulevard in Laurel, resulting in his immediate death. Officer Rodriguez did not stop to render aid, report the collision, or notify emergency services. He returned to Anne Arundel County and continued his shift without reporting the incident. On April 2, 2025, following an investigation by the Maryland Attorney General's Office, Officer Rodriguez was indicted on charges including manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and misconduct in office.

Deputy Hunter Reedy of the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office was shot and killed during a traffic stop. Police found the shooter, Timothy Wayne Goodman, and shot him. He died in the hospital a week later.

Imani Jackson, 46, was chased on foot by Phoenix PD on 08/10/2024 after a report of him having what sounded like warning shots near a group of people near 27th Avenue and Van Buren Street and then leaving. Police located Jackson’s vehicle near 25th Avenue and Buckeye Road and attempted a traffic stop. Police are seen approaching him with guns drawn and Jackson fled on foot with police in pursuit. During the chase, officers claimed that he had reached for his waistband. A firearm was allegedly recovered at the scene.

The autopsy report for Imani Jackson has not been disclosed. BWC shows that he was shot from behind while running away. The distance and low light makes it impossible to see him reaching for anything on BWC from the perspective of the shooter officer's BWC. Police had stated that he had reached for his waistband. He was seen wearing loose pajama bottoms on all videos. Police allege that they found a handgun they claim to be his in a nearby yard but not immediately on scene.

Michael Letendre was stopped by a loss prevention officer at a Safeway store for alleged shoplifting. On August 9, 2024, at approximately 11:27 p.m., officers from the Cobb County Police Department (CCPD) located 32-year-old Nathain Jenkins inside a Walgreens store at 2670 Cobb Parkway SE in Smyrna, Georgia. Jenkins was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including failure to appear on a felon in possession of a firearm charge in Fulton County, as well as probation violations in Lowndes County.

Officers entered the Walgreens to apprehend Jenkins. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Jenkins was armed with a handgun during the encounter. An altercation ensued between Jenkins and the officers. During this confrontation, an officer discharged their firearm, striking Jenkins. He was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Jenkins' stepfather, Darlland Jackson, reported that Jenkins had contacted him earlier, stating he was "in trouble" and requesting assistance. Jackson arrived at the Walgreens during the police operation and was on the phone with Jenkins when he heard gunshots. A friend, Hayley Glaze, claimed she was on a FaceTime call with Jenkins during the incident. She alleged that Jenkins had his hands up and informed officers of this before shots were fired.

On the evening of August 7, 2024, Sumter County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 1100 block of South Georgia Tech Parkway in Americus, Georgia.
