REASON FOR CHASE:
Marysville police pursued after police said Ische drove toward officers and patrol vehicles while fleeing, giving officers probable cause for second-degree assault.

NARRATIVE:
On 10/06/2023, 32-year-old Lacey N. Ische was killed when the Cadillac Escalade she was driving crashed during a Marysville Police Department chase on southbound Interstate 5.

Just after 2:00 a.m., Marysville police responded to reports of people attempting to break into vehicles in the 14500 block of 51st Avenue NE. A Snohomish County Sheriff's Office deputy subsequently located the Escalade backed into a nearby driveway. Marysville officers arrived and contacted a man who was driving the vehicle while Ische was in the passenger seat.

Police said Ische moved into the driver's seat and drove away at high speed, accelerating toward officers and police vehicles. Police said another responding officer had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision. Officers then pursued the Escalade southbound on Interstate 5.

Just before 2:30 a.m., Ische crossed several lanes at high speed while attempting to take the State Route 528 exit. She lost control on the off-ramp, left the roadway and crashed into trees. Ische was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, where she died from blunt-force injuries. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner ruled her death accidental.

Washington State Patrol conducted an independent investigation of the fatal crash. State Patrol had reportedly received a request to deploy spike strips to assist with the chase, but the crash occurred before troopers arrived.
