On September 22, 2024, Andrea Nicole Garcia, 31, was found unresponsive in the booking section of the Bexar County Jail. Inmates alerted deputies around 3:13 a.m. that Garcia "didn't look well." Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m. Preliminary reports indicated that Garcia experienced a medical episode exacerbated by detoxing conditions. The official cause of death was to be determined by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.

Garcia had been booked into the jail on September 21, 2024, on charges of theft over $1,500 with two or more previous convictions and failure to identify.

The fatal shooting that occurred on September 22, 2024, at 3100 Corksie Street in Houston involved officers from the Houston Police Department (HPD). At approximately 2:35 a.m., HPD officers responded to the area after hearing multiple gunshots. Upon arrival, they encountered a man who raised a firearm at the officers and fired at them. The officers involved, identified as J. Lee and S. Palin, were not injured. A subsequent search revealed a second deceased man a few houses down from the incident. On September 22, 2024, the Everett Police Department pursued a suspect involved in a shooting at the Park View Apartments in Everett. Upon their arrival, officers observed James Michael Spaugh fleeing the scene. Police established a perimeter and conducted a search in the vicinity of County 11th Street and S Desert Air Boulevard. During the encounter, police reported that Spaugh was shot and killed. The Yuma Police Department has not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the shooting or identified the officers involved.

Goose Creek PD received a call from the Joint Base Charleston Naval Weapons Station reporting that a man had barricaded himself inside a residence with a 1-month-old infant. On 09/21/2024, 31-year-old Melvin Omar Chavez-Paz was shot and killed by Montgomery County deputies responding to a disturbance call in the 3400 block of Janet Road in Wheaton-Glenmont, Maryland. On September 19, 2024, Polina Wright, 25, was shot and killed at her home in Ocala by her boyfriend, Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Leslie Boileau, during an incident while they were cleaning firearms. Boileau reported that the shooting was accidental, claiming the rifle discharged while they were handling it. Wright was shot in the forehead, and Boileau immediately contacted authorities.

Diamond Elizabeth Brooks, a 26-year-old woman from Newport News, Virginia, died following a high-speed police chase. On September 20, 2024, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Whitfield County 911 dispatched a deputy to a residence in the 1400 block of Ninety-Seven Springs Road in Dalton, Georgia, following reports of a man hallucinating and attempting self-harm. The man's wife had informed a friend that her husband, 32-year-old Alicio "Junior" Mayorga-Rangel, had ingested drugs. Upon arrival, the deputy heard commotion inside the home. As the deputy approached, Mayorga-Rangel, nude and agitated but unarmed, charged at the officer. Despite verbal commands to stop, Mayorga-Rangel continued advancing. The deputy deployed a Taser, which proved ineffective. Mayorga-Rangel, growling and with hands raised in a "fighting stance." The deputy fired multiple shots, striking Mayorga-Rangel. Even after falling, he resisted officers and EMTs attempting to render aid. Mayorga-Rangel was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

NYPD chased a vehicle from Jamaica, Queens until Massapequa Park in Nassau County, where the vehicle crashed into several police cars, drove the wrong way with police in hot pursuit until he lost control at Hicksville Road and sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park. On September 19, 2024, Clifford James Griffin, a 27-year-old from Maumelle, was killed in a crash while driving his Jeep southbound on Interstate 430 (I-430). West Memphis police had initiated a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle that was driving the wrong way on the interstate. The fleeing vehicle collided with Griffin's vehicle, causing the fatal crash. The driver of the evading vehicle, who had been attempting to flee from police, was severely injured and transported to the hospital. Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jermaine M. Burnett was wanted for a homicide and was located in the Forest Village Apartment complex in Columbia, MO. Police exchanged fire with him and he was locked in an apartment. On September 19, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., officers from the New Haven Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force, assisted by the Connecticut State Police, located 36-year-old Jebrell Conley at the Splash Car Wash on Boston Post Road in West Haven. Police were attempting to arrest Conley on an outstanding federal warrant for robbery and firearm charges.

When officers approached Conley’s vehicle, he reportedly fired a shot from inside, shattering the driver's side window. A number of officers opened fire, hitting Conley multiple times. He was struck, removed from his vehicle, and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Connecticut Office of the Inspector General is investigating the shooting, with assistance from the Connecticut State Police’s Western District Major Crime Squad and the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven. On 09/20/2024, Desire Pool, a 41-year-old woman, was struck and killed by a Houston Police Department (HPD) SUV while crossing Antoine Drive near Pinemont Drive. Officers Shelby Kennedy and Joshua Rosales were transporting an individual in custody at the time. Pool had exited a bus and was crossing the street with her children when she was hit by the HPD vehicle. Dashcam and body-worn camera footage from the incident revealed that Officer Kennedy performed CPR while Officer Rosales attempted additional life-saving measures at the scene.

Despite efforts to save her life, Pool later died from her injuries at a local hospital. HPD has publicly stated that they do not believe speeding was a factor in the crash. A man in a mental health crisis was walking around the 5700 block of Oakland Avenue in St. Louis with a puppy. Police arrived and confronted him. He allegedly produced a knife and began stabbing his small dog. Police fired a taser at him, but he broke free and fled. Police again, cornered him, and allegedly ordered him to drop the knife. He instead went from standing to a seated position, but still held the knife. Police shot and killed him.

Ali Ali, aged 39, was involved in a manhunt in Orange County, New York, after crashing a stolen vehicle on the NY State Thruway. Ali fled into the woods near Highland Mills, where he was located by police. On 09/18/2024, Froylan Garcia opened fire during a prayer vigil on the 2500-block of Spaulding Avenue, shooting seven people and killing one. Chicago Police responded to the scene, located Garcia, and shot him to death. Officers have not disclosed further details about the encounter or the names of those involved.

On 09/17/2024, deputies from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Steven Fifer at a residence on the 5500 block of Hamerick Drive in Marrero. Fifer, wanted on multiple charges, including aggravated battery, theft, home invasion, and violation of a protective order, locked himself inside the house. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrived, established a perimeter, and escalated a standoff.

SWAT officers deployed smoke bombs to force Fifer out of the residence. At approximately 11:00 a.m., Fifer exited the house armed with a gun. According to Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, Fifer raised the weapon toward officers, who then opened fire, killing him at the residence. The identities of the deputies involved have not been disclosed.

Houston police were called by a woman who said she heard gunshots and that a bullet had come through her ceiling. Police arrived and found the upstairs door unlocked and a 27-year-old female dead with multiple gunshot wants to her head. In the bedroom, police found her boyfriend, a 33-year-old Harris County patrol officer, also dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police have not publicly identified either of them so far.

Officers Cade Moritz, Chad Steffen, Jacob Boekhoff, and Frankie Contreras fatally shot Joshua Dean Greene, a 37-year-old White man, on 09/17/2024. Upon their arrival, officers reported encountering Greene armed with a handgun. Greene allegedly fired in the direction of officers, and Officer Cade Moritz returned fire, striking Greene. Officers Chad Steffen, Jacob Boekhoff, and Frankie Contreras also fired their guns during the confrontation.

The incident began when Des Moines Police attempted to stop Greene for a traffic violation near Easton Boulevard and Hubbell Avenue. Greene did not stop. The officers escalated a "brief pursuit" that ended when his vehicle crashed into a semi-truck near East 24th Street and Easton Boulevard. After the crash, Greene allegedly revved the engine and displayed a firearm. Tasers deployed by officers were ineffective, and Greene reportedly fired at them, striking Officer Cade Moritz in the head and Officer Jacob Boekhoff in the arm.

Officers returned fire, discharging a total of 51 rounds. Officer Moritz underwent emergency surgery for his injuries, and Officer Boekhoff required surgery for his arm injury. Both officers were transported to a local hospital and are currently on administrative assignment as they recover. greene was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa Attorney General's Office reviewed the case and determined the officers' use of deadly force was legally justified. Body camera footage released by the Des Moines Police Department provided detailed visuals of the encounter, including the crash and the ensuing confrontation.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation into the incident, with findings to be reviewed by the Polk County Attorney's Office.
