Cedrick Turner, 49, died on March 25, 2025, in a single-vehicle crash during a police chase. Thomas County deputies were pursuing Turner after a hit-and-run incident in Colquitt County. The chase reached speeds of 100 mph. Near Thomas County Middle School on Highway 319 North, deputies attempted to disable Turner’s vehicle. He lost control, was ejected, and was transported to Archbold Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Turner was not wearing a seatbelt.

On March 24, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force attempted to apprehend 23-year-old Willie Joe Larry-Purdiman, who was wanted for failing to appear on weapons charges. Upon locating him in a vehicle near the 7900 block of Baseline Road in Little Rock, Larry-Purdiman exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward a nearby gas station. Around 7:40 a.m. on March 23, 2025, a juvenile called 911 reporting her mother was being assaulted and kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend, who was armed. The man forced the woman into a Mercedes sedan and drove away from an apartment complex on Oro Vista Road. Officers from the San Diego Police Department pursued the vehicle and deployed spike strips on Tocayo Avenue. After the vehicle stopped, the woman escaped. The man then shot and killed himself in the vehicle as police surrounded the scene.

On 03/22/2025, at approximately 7:16 p.m., a mass shooting occurred at the intersection of Pearl Street and Lamar Street in downtown Jackson, Mississippi, following Hal's St. Paddy's Parade. Among the victims, 21-year-old Cortez Jerome George was shot and killed by multiple gunshots. The investigation led to the arrest of an off-duty University of Mississippi Medical Center Police Department officer, Michael McLeod, who was off duty at the time of the incident. Arrested with him was his brother, Marquavius McLeod, who had also participated in the shooting.

On March 27, 2025 and charged with first-degree murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault. Following his arrest, McLeod was terminated from his position at UMMC PD. As of the latest available information, he is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond, Mississippi, and has been denied bond.

On March 22, 2025, Reno Police responded to reports of an attempted armed carjacking on Silverada Boulevard. The man, later identified as Marcus Gifford, 28, was wanted in an armed kidnapping and domestic violence case in Roseville, California. After failing to carjack the first vehicle, he allegedly forced another person to drive him to Sparks, Nevada, where he successfully carjacked a third vehicle. As officers approached, they heard a gunshot from inside; Fanello later explained he fired because he felt the police response was delayed. Officers observed Fanello outside his home holding a firearm and attempted to negotiate, ordering him to drop the weapon. When Fanello pointed the gun at the officers, Officer Larry Jones discharged his weapon, striking Fanello. Fanello was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On March 21, 2025, a resident in the 100 block of Walnut Street in Needles reported a vehicle burglary in progress. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded and found 39-year-old Michael Ray Richard II walking nearby. Richard fled on foot, evading capture by jumping over walls before returning to retrieve a bag. Deputies caught up with him and a struggle ensued. Richard, armed with a handgun, fired during the struggle, prompting deputies to open fire. He was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. A second firearm was found in his bag. Upon arrival, for unknown reasons, the officers engaged in an altercation during which they allege that he tried to take a taser. During the struggle, he allegedly gained control of an officer’s gun and shot the other officer in the bulletproof vest. The second officer opened fire and shot Rainey multiple times. Rainey was transported to Einstein Hospital, where he died.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., Gaston police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a motorcycle due to a tag that did not match the vehicle and appeared altered. The motorcyclist, identified as 38-year-old Travis Leon Horton of Pelion, did not stop. Officers chased him and claimed to have briefly lost sight of him near the 500 block of Meadowfield Road, during which time Horton collided with a northbound Chevrolet sedan that had slowed for traffic. He had not been wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the crash site. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and its Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team are investigating the incident.
