On May 7, 2025, Broward County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an armed woman pointing a firearm at an individual near 2060 NE 2nd Street in Deerfield Beach. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 28-year-old Santrina Lester inside a vehicle. Police allege that Lester produced a firearm. Deputies opened fire. The exchange occurred both inside and outside the vehicle. Lester was struck and was transported to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead. The driver, 33-year-old Jemmie Earl Hicks Jr. of Midway, refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. The chase ended on Bullock County Road 106 near Flower Garden Road, where Hicks exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. During the foot pursuit, a deadly force encounter occurred between Hicks and the trooper. Hicks was shot during the confrontation, and the trooper immediately rendered first aid. However, Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle was tracked with assistance from its owner. The driver, 46-year-old Brett Osborne of Richmond, Texas, did not stop, Police escalated a high-speed chase through multiple jurisdictions in the greater Houston area. The pursuit concluded near the intersection of Community Reach Boulevard and Mound Road in Hockley, Harris County. When officers approached the stopped vehicle, they discovered Osborne had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No other individuals were injured during the incident.

On May 5, 2025, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at a home in the 10000 block of Mustang Circle. After receiving no response, deputies heard a gunshot. A drone was deployed and revealed four deceased individuals inside with gunshot wounds. The deceased included Leroy Sadler, 60; his wife Judy Sadler; their son James Sadler; and granddaughter Adalynn Sadler. The deaths of Judy, James, and Adalynn were ruled homicides. Leroy Sadler is believed to be the shooter in an apparent murder-suicide.

On 05/03/2025 at approximately 12:20 a.m., New York State Police attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle speeding on Route 9 near Hidden Farm Road in Queensbury. The driver, Alex S. Morehouse, 38, of Warrensburg, did not stop. Police chased the motorcycle but claimed they had called off the chase near Lafayette Street, however, Glens Falls police observed the motorcycle crash on Bacon Street near Glen Street moments later. Morehouse died at the scene. His passenger, Suzie J. Etu, 38, of South Glens Falls, was taken to Glens Falls Hospital where she later died.

Morehouse died at the scene. His passenger, Suzie J. Etu, 38, of South Glens Falls, was taken to Glens Falls Hospital where she later died.

On 05/03/2025 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Pine Bluff Police responded to a domestic violence call at the Park View Apartments at 300 W. 13th Street. A man had barricaded himself inside an apartment, and a standoff ensued. After hours of attempted negotiation, 54-year-old Melvin Sanders surrendered and was taken into custody with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand while 43-year-old Yashika Morris was killed during the standoff. Sanders was charged with capital murder.

On May 9, 2025, just before 11:00 p.m., ALEA troopers say 44-year-old Willie T. Wills of Moundville attempted to evade a Brent Police Department traffic stop on Alabama Highway 5 near mile marker 84, approximately two miles south of Brent. Wills’ 2024 Dodge Hornet collided head-on with a 2019 GMC Acadia driven by a 41-year-old Brent man, Jason G. Corley. Wills, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acadia and two juvenile passengers sustained injuries and were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa and local hospitals. Multiple agencies assisted the response, including Brent and Centreville fire departments, Brierfield Rescue, and local EMS. The crash remains under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.

On May 2, 2025, a 28-year-old man was shot and killed by police officers in Brooklyn after a police chase for an allegedly stolen Porsche. The NYPD's Community Response Team was searching for stolen vehicles when they identified the Porsche as suspicious and attempted to pull it over. The driver fled on the Belt Parkway, and officers set up roadblocks to intercept the car. The driver swerved off the road toward officers and the roadblock, nearly hitting an officer. In response, the officer fired a single shot.
The man was pulled from the car and taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he later died. At least one passenger in the stolen vehicle was taken into custody, though charges have not been filed.

On 05/02/2025, Jorge Valerio Martinez was pulled over by North Aurora police for an apparent license plate violation. Officers observed signs of intoxication, and Martinez was taken into custody. After being handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle, he reportedly collapsed. Officers removed him, attempted lifesaving measures, and transported him to Mercy Hospital in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined cause of death as coronary artery disease, with acute cocaine intoxication contributing. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office found no evidence of wrongdoing by police and closed the case.

On May 2, 2025, 36-year-old Dustin J. Johnson allegedly shot his ex-wife’s current husband during a domestic dispute in the Argosy Casino parking lot in Riverside, Missouri. He fled in a rented U-Haul truck. Riverside Police and Platte County deputies pursued him onto I-29, where Kansas City Police deployed stop sticks. After the vehicle was disabled, officers negotiated with Johnson for 30 minutes. He exited the vehicle with a gun and pointed it at officers. Two Riverside officers and a Platte County deputy opened fire and killed him. The original shooting victim survived. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.

On May 2, 2025, Ventura County Sheriff's deputies responded to a grand theft report at a Target store in Camarillo. The man, identified as 26-year-old Matyes Getachew, fled the scene in a black Honda SUV. Deputies initiated a pursuit that continued through Thousand Oaks and into Simi Valley. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took over the chase on the 118 Freeway at Balboa Boulevard in Granada Hills. The chase reached speeds exceeding 110 mph, weaving through traffic and ended when Getachew's vehicle collided with the rear of a dump truck on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Ocean View Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge. Getachew was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 11:18 a.m. No other injuries were reported.

Officers responded to a domestic violence call involving Johnny Balcorta, 37, who allegedly threw a knife, attempted sexual assault, and stole property including a BB gun. Police confirmed Balcorta had a felony no-bail warrant. He fled toward the Sacramento River near Matsui Waterfront Park. After an hour-long search, he was located holding what appeared to be a firearm. Police issued repeated commands to drop the weapon. A K-9 was deployed, and as it reached him, officers observed Balcorta armed and opened fire. He was struck at least once. Though initially reported as surviving with non-life-threatening injuries, Sacramento Police later confirmed Balcorta was killed in the incident. Gregory Leschishin, a well-known local boxing coach, was out for his regular walk on Rogers Street when he was struck by a vehicle that had been chased into a crash by police. The driver carjacked another vehicle after jumping on the hood and screaming at the driver. Lowell Police were actively searching for him when he drove the stolen car onto the sidewalk and hit Leschishin. The impact caused life-threatening injuries, and Leschishin died four days later at Lahey Hospital.

A Morgan County Sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man while responding to a 911 call about an unwanted person at a residence on Ray Cross Road in the Mossy Grove area. Upon arrival, the man reportedly picked up a large rock and advanced toward the deputy. The deputy fired multiple shots, striking the man. Officers performed CPR until EMS arrived and transported him to Roane County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Following a grand jury review, Deputy Charles Faircloth was indicted on charges of criminally negligent homicide and official misconduct in connection with the death of Cox.

Gregory Williams, 42, was shot and killed by New Orleans police outside the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas Street after officers responded to a call about a man experiencing an overdose. As officers attempted to provide aid, Williams allegedly became combative, got into his vehicle, and drove off while dragging one officer. Another officer opened fire, striking and killing Williams. The officer who was dragged was hospitalized. The incident is under investigation.

On May 1, 2025, Cincinnati police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill. Officers approached four individuals inside the vehicle, who fled on foot. During the pursuit, 18-year-old Ryan Hinton allegedly pointed a handgun at an officer. The officer opened fire, killing him. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered but had not been fired. Body camera footage recorded the encounter showed that he was shot in his back several times while fleeing and he was not seen with a gun before or when he was killed. His father viewed the bodycam footage the next morning and drove a car into a police vehicle, killing an unrelated officer from the same PD and was arrested. The officer died.
