OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Hearing a sound the family felt were burglars trying to break into the house late at night, family members saw men cutting a lock. The men did not identify themselves and family saw that they were breaking in. Grandfather Miguel Lopez came to the door with a gun and was shot dead by LASD deputies. The stealthy intruders had been deputies. Family members state that Lopez realized they were police and lowered his gun but was shot dead anyway. This conflicts somewhat with the police story that he had pointed a weapon at them. Family stated they did not identify themselves before breaking and entering. They were not publicly named.No officers were charged.
