On 10/15/2025, around 8:30 a.m., San Antonio police shot and killed 36-year-old Odon Paul Bustos outside a motel in the 6800 block of U.S. Highway 90 West near West Military Drive. Police said Bustos was armed and fired a gun during a confrontation with officers. Three officers opened fire, killing him at the scene. Bustos was wanted on multiple warrants, including aggravated robbery, parole violation, and obstructing a court order. The Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.

Authorities said Matherson was pursued after a traffic stop attempt and spike strips were deployed to disable his vehicle. Police reported that Matherson fired a weapon, and officers opened fire, killing him at the scene. The Violent Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation.
