On 09/11/2025, Bartlett Police Department officers with support from the Drug Enforcement Administration served a warrant at a home on Dellwood Avenue in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis. The man inside, identified as 77-year-old Augusto Columbie, allegedly fired a gun at officers. Police opened fire and killed him inside the home. A Bartlett police officer was also shot and injured during the incident, though it is unclear whether Columbie shot him or if it was friendly fire. Desmond Holly, 16, opened fire at Evergreen High School in Jefferson County, Colorado, around 12:30 p.m., injuring two teenage students. On 09/09/2025, Bracken County Sheriff’s deputies went to a home on East Augusta-Chatham Road in Brooksville to perform a welfare check on Justin Gillespie, 34. A deputy was speaking with Gillespie on the front porch when Gillespie ran inside the house. Deputies chased after him to the back door. As he was trying to exit through the back door, police engaged him in an altercation, and a deputy discharged his agency-issued weapon, striking Gillespie. The crash killed a 17-year-old passenger and left five others hospitalized, including one in critical condition at UAB Hospital. Police arrested a surviving occupant who was also injured. On 09/06/2025, around 11 p.m., Delaware State Police attempted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Silverado in Blades for an expired registration. Instead of stopping, police escalated a high-speed chase as the driver crossed into oncoming lanes on Market Street. The Silverado collided head-on with a Ford F-150 in the turn lane, forcing it backward into a Chevrolet Camaro. The 58-year-old male driver of the Silverado, who was not restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford driver, 34, of Laurel, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the Camaro driver, 20, of Delmar, declined treatment. Market Street was closed for nearly five hours while police investigated the fatal crash.

Killed by police during traffic stopOn 09/05/2025 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Gooding County deputies responded to a vehicle stuck on the side of US-30 just south of Bliss. When deputies approached, the driver pulled out a gun. Deputies opened fire, killing the individual at the scene. The Critical Incident Task Force is conducting the investigation. US-30 was closed between mileposts 172.6 and 177.4, with traffic diverted via River Road, before reopening later that day.

On 09/05/2025, just before 3:00 a.m., a Reddick resident called 911 after hearing a woman screaming outside her home. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded, encountering a man and woman in a truck. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away, escalating into a chase. The pursuit ended near Northwest Gainesville Road and Highway 329, where the man exited the truck armed with a rifle. Deputies opened fire, killing him. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting the investigation.

On 09/05/2025 at approximately 1:23 p.m., Jersey City police encountered a male civilian who opened fire on marked patrol cars on John F. Kennedy Boulevard near Clinton Avenue. Officers returned fire, fatally injuring the civilian. He was transported to a hospital where he died. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating the fatal officer-involved shooting. The identities of both the deceased and the officers involved have not been released.
