Event : Killed by police during stolen vehicle investigation
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Mesquite PD were investigating a stolen vehicle when they came to a convenience store on Faithon P. Lucas Boulevard and Cartwright Road in South Mesquite. The police narrative states that they encountered six men and got into a shootout. One of the men was killed by police. Lawrence’s father states that he feels this shooting was the result of mistaken identity.
Mesquite PD released BWC footage which is linked below which shows an officer placing himself directly in front of the rolling vehicle, not the vehicle aiming for him. He fired several close-range fatal shots at Lawrence who makes no visible effort to threaten the shooter officer. The family has hired a lawyer.
