OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

Gordon County Sheriff’s Office states that around 1 a.m. on 01/25/2023, their deputy initiated a traffic stop on Cook Road on a truck driven by Billy Dewayne Couch, 51, of Sugar Valley. Couch did not stop and went to 523 Pocket Road in Sugar Valley to the back of the home. The deputy who had pursued him,blocked the truck with his patrol car. Couch got out of the car. It is unknown what happened next but the deputy shot and killed Couch. Couch had been unarmed and police did not explain why the deputy shot him to death.No officers were charged.
