Phoenix PD was transporting an inmate in their vehicle when the vehicle crashed and the other vehicle went up in flames, killing the third-party driver. The extent of injuries to the officer and prisoner is unknown. Cars generally explode only upon high-speed impact. A prisoner transfer is not usually a dire emergency warranting speed. It is unknown how fast the officer had been driving to have caused such a massive crash. No officers were charged.
