Mario Lares was driving down the street in Bakersfield when a Bakersfield PD patrol car crashed into him at 80-90 mph after the police vehicle ran a stop sign at high speed, killing Lares and severely injuring 3 other people. Police had been chasing a stolen car when they killed third party motorist Lares. Officer Robles, the driver, was sentenced to 1 day in jail, probation and community service only in November of 2024.
