.When deputies arrived at Globe Avenue just outside Dos Palos, they saw a man who was reportedly armed with a knife and holding a young child hostage in a mental health crisis who had tried to set an apartment complex on fire. The Merced County Sheriff's Office shot and killed him. The child’s condition is unknown. No officers were charged.
