OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
An off-duty Indianapolis officer noticed a vehicle as he drove on Interstate 465 at about 3:30 a.m. that was traveling with its lights off below the speed limit at about 45 mph and was straddling the shoulder of the interstate. The off-duty officer requested on-duty backup. The license plate had been reported stolen.
Indianapolis Metro PD tried to stop the vehicle at West 71st Street and Zionsville Road but the car drove away. Police escalated a chase until the vehicle crashed into a utility pole at West 62nd Street and Zionsville Road. The vehicle caught fire and the driver died.He was identified as Damion Collier, 15, after crashing into a utility pole early Tuesday, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. No officers were charged.
