OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On Jan. 3, 2023, at 3 a.m., Kern County deputies shot and killed an unnamed man near the intersection of La Mirage Lane and Sahara Drive in Ridgecrest. The Ridgecrest Police Department had responded to an incident involving a suicidal man with a gun in the 300 block of Sahara Drive. When both Ridgecrest PD and Kern County deputies were present, the man was shot for unknown reasons. His autopsy revealed 14 bullets. He was transported to the hospital and died. No officers were charged.
