On 02/28/2023 around 10:00 p.m., Branson Police Department officers located Randall J. Wesolek Jr. in a vehicle at Dalton’s Express Gas Station on West 76 Country Boulevard. Police said officers identified him as the person they were looking for in connection with multiple active warrants. Police said officers instructed him to exit the vehicle and a struggle followed. Police said a gun was produced during the struggle and officers fired, striking Wesolek. He died from his injuries. Missouri State Highway Patrol took over the investigation, and the involved officers were placed on administrative leave during the review. Wesolek’s sister, Lisa Thomas, told reporters the family wanted answers and said she wanted to see video because she did not trust police claims about what happened. In August 2023, Branson Police held a news conference where police body camera video was presented, and KTTS reported the Taney County prosecutor declined to file charges related to the shooting. Police reporting described the weapon as a gun. Reporting available in these sources does not identify it as a replica.
