OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
The store owner stated that 34-year-old Lanier walked into the store at 11 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of 814 N. Norwood Street naked and began bothering customers who called the police. The responding officer first tased the man, then shot him three times, killing him.James Lanier had been unarmed. The killing was Justified in May of 2023 by District Attorney Ernie Lee.
On January 9, 2024, autopsy was published and showed:
-blunt force injuries left elbow, and left knee
-perforation of the upper lobe of the left lung
-fracture of the left anterior rib and sixth thoracic vertebra
-left hemothorax
-two taser wounds on the right shoulder and under the right clavicle
-blunt force injuries of the head and neck with an abrasion of the left eyebrow
-blunt force injuries of the pelvis
-laceration of the shaft of the penis
The cause of death was determined by Dr. McNeill as a gunshot wound of the chest. “The postmortem toxicology analysis of Lanier revealed no ethanol in his blood but elevated levels of phencyclidine and THC metabolites. When the autopsy report was published, Wallace PD propagandized the topic, focusing extensively on the cannabis and PCP in Lanier's system. The DA cleared the officer while shielding their identities.
