Mayes County deputies chased a vehicle around midnight on March 7. Deputies allege the car went off the road and came to a stop in a field near Highway 412 and 430 Road in Locust Grove. When deputies approached the car, they found the driver dead with a gunshot wound to the man's right temple. The unnamed man had apparently committed suicide under police duress. He was not publicly identified.
